The thing that grabs you most is how close this place is to the general population, being just outside Crowthorne. It's home to some seriously deranged characters, and opened as a lunatic asylum in 1863. It may be a hospital, but it still retains the status of a Category B prison.

As you roll up a small hill, the road takes on a chilling, seldom used, foreboding look (If you've ever played the game or seen the film of Silent Hill , you'll know the feeling) ......You transition from a sunny English Autumnal evening into a 1930's black and white film noir, suddenly realising you are the only thing moving.....as you crest the hill, what looks like a huge walled prison slides into view. Even in broad daylight it is quite a sight. A huge red kite lifts off as I accelerate along what the sat-nav tells me is a road that circles the asylum........... As you pass the main gate, a garden with a solitary moss-covered angel with it's back turned sets a sombre, dark mood.....
| A very deserted road ! |
......I pull in next to a delapidated wooden street sign sign for Broadmoor Park road, the paint flaking from the sign an indication this place has not seen maintenance for some time !. I jump out for a quick photo. As I'm strapping myself back in, the silence of the place hits me - the only sound is the wind whistling through the trees. As I put my earplugs in a bicycle flies past me at speed, it's rider giving me a faceless glance, followed by what sounds like a door creaking. This is too much !.....My fight-or-flight kicks in as I crank the starter and hit the accelerator. The road narrows as I drive through the now single-track flooded lane , and the water flicked up by the front wheels hits my face ....I realise the road goes no further. It did, but it's now closed, with a NO ENTRY barrier preventing any progress around the back-side of the hospital. Once again the silence hits you......

.....I don't think it'll be a future blat destination, at least not on my own !
Next stop was Farnborough Business Park - Not a worthy destination you might think....wrong ! - Rather than levelling the place and putting up a collection of bland faceless blocks they have embraced Farnborough's aviation history. The old control tower and Airport lounge is now a Regus Office, and the old airship shed is now forms the central monument of the park.
