February , 6.15am.......
The day began as I rolled the 7 out of the garage amongst the neighbors tintops in the icy pre-dawn !.
braaaaaaap ! , the urban silence was broken as 10 neighbors wondered who just nuked the local area!
After rendezvousing with Dastardly for a blast down to Cannonballs' for Bacon butties (which were very good in fact !) washed down with copious mugs of tea ! Driving a car with no windscreen always seems pretty cool when you're in a cosy pub talking about it, but blasting down the A33 at 6.30 in the morning at minus 4 degrees seriously focusses the mind ! - As Bob would say, "Pain is temporary, but glory lives forever"....well, I had got to the pain part....
After fixing a small accelerator pedal malfunction (and not a Toyota in sight.....), three of the squadron blatted off from Basingstoke to rendezvous with another wing of 3 sevens for the , slightly warmer (and glorious) bit of the blat.
Heroic overtakes along with Carrotts usual 11/10ths driving style ensued, as we fought the cold all the way to Goodwood for the first Breakfast Club of 2010. This months meet focus was on pre-1973 classics, and the paddock and track were full to bursting, with some superb examples fro Ferrari, Austin Healey and Porsche to name but a few.
Deciding not to try to beat our way through the thronging crowds , desperately queuing for their platinum plated burgers, we set off for the 'other nearby Mecca' , Loomies diner, a great biker, .......and sometime Caterham haunt. I took up position as tailgunner (ooo-err !) and we blatted through the twisty hills to West Meon Hut for a 'breakfast of champions'
Almost ther, I caught sight of something in the rear view mirror, matching our every move. Hanging on to the back of the convoy was an old 1950's Jaguar XKSS replica ...Quality !!!
We pulled into Loomies, with the Jag in Tow, and ended up having a great natter ! - what a great morning !
Sunrise Sevens are back ...now all we need is the Summer !
