Malvern's Magnificent Morgans

The weekend brought Gigi's 50th brithday, and a trip up to the beautiful Malvern Hills for a garden party extraordinare, some Croquet (and Roquet - Google that !), a bit of Jenga, and a lot of Morgans !!!

Almost as soon as we crossed into Worcester, there were Morgans everywhere - too many to just be visiting the home of the Morgan Motor Company. This amazing car celebrats 100 years, quite a major achievement. It's amazing how a company that manufactures cars can create an amazing subculture of cars and camaraderie...I wonder if they ever actually setout to do it !

After quite too much night the night before, and losing at Trivial Pursuit to the girls !, we set out to find the Morgan Factory, in th hope that there was some sort of gathering.

On the way we spotted a couple of Morgans turning into an industrial estate. Following them, we turned int a little hive of Morgan-dom, The ineresting thing about Morgans is that unbeleivably the body is held on by a wooden frame, which offers surprisingly good crash protection.

A myriad of foreign Morgans continued to arrive, French, Norwegian, Swiss, even English !!!, and one was even towing a second shell !. The mini show centered around Simmonds, an aftermarket tuning company, who had a fantastic Aero 8 based beast of a machine they were building.

Another very interesting one-off hardtop turned up, along with some other race-inspired machinery.

Anyway, we paid a quick visit to the eerily deserted factory (Everyone was at the centenery fetival at Cheltenham racecourse, then back to the Party (Part II- the BBQ) . A fantastic day of Croquet, Roquet, some absolutely awesome food, and great comapny.

Quite a pleasant weekend overall !!

I think a trip in the Caterham has to be next to sample the fabulous Malvern roads.
